Twenty-five years ago on this day, May 18th, Mount St. Helen's erupted with violence. At 8:32 a.m. on May 18, she erupted. She was shaken by an earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale. The eruption lasted 9 hours. Mount St. Helen's and the landscape around was left drastically changed. The blast took out nearly 230 square miles of forest. Ash and smoke drifted far from the volcano.
