Revenge of the Sith

Matt and I just got home from seeing Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith. I have to say that by far, this one is the best of the prequels. It leads nicely into the fourth Star Wars movie. I do not know about anyone else, but it did give light to a lot of questions for me (especially since I do not pay attention too well and always have questions). It, in my opinion, help me understand things in the next three movies. I do recommend going to see this movie.

More Songs and Memories

On my way home from dropping Matt back off at work from lunch, I was listening to the Counting Crows best of CD "Films About Ghosts". Well, one of my favorite songs that the Counting Crows sings is "Mr. Jones" and it will always remind me of one of my best friend in high school, Shelly. Shelly had a cat named Mr. Jones and was always singing this song about her cat. She also had a cat named Elvis. So, Shelly, where ever you are, I'm thinking about you!

Weird U.S.

Back when I started my blog, I mentioned a book called Werid Wisconsin. The authors of this book are coming to Barnes and Noble here in Madison to talk about their book. While I was at the Barnes and Noble on the East Side of town yesterday, I saw this book and flipped through it. It was very interesting but I did not buy it. Weird Wisconsin is a spin off of Weird U.S.

I did buy Weird U.S. Why would I buy this book? Because on page 111, it features the Bardin Booger from Bardin, Florida. I know some of you may not know what the Bardin Booger is so let me explain. The Bardin Booger is Bardin's own Big Foot. Some people claim he does not exist but my grandma has a picture of him on her refridgerator (along with pictures of her grandkids). No joke! If you Google the Bardin Booger, you will get a good number of links to search.

It is a lot of fun to go through this book and find places you have either been to or things you have seen and maybe places you would like to go. I found several places in the Weird Wisconsin book I would like to venture to. I do recommend picking up Weird U.S. and thumbing through it. It is a fun read.

Fitchburg Days

So we just got home from a wonderful fireworks display at Fitchburg Days. Fitchburg Days is a celebration of the Irish heritage of Fitchburg, Wisconsin. Actually it is the only Irish Festival in Dane County. According to my friend Elizabeth and her husband Jeff, Fitchburg Days has grown significantly over the past two years. Years past, it consisted of drunk hippies playing music. Now it constists of a midway, music, fireworks (second biggest in Dane County to Rhythm and Booms), and lots of carnival food. The only thing that made tonight's extravaganza Irish was some of the music. I did not see any Irish dancing or food in the tents and I am pretty sure that the beer they were serving was just local beer (maybe like Leinie's).

The fireworks display was awsome. I was very impressed and shocked. I was expecting lots of red and green, which happen to be two of the cheaper colors to make. But they had a lot of colors. It was spectacular. Wish I would have brought my camera to take pictures. There is always next year.

Till next time!!!

On This Day...

Twenty-five years ago on this day, May 18th, Mount St. Helen's erupted with violence. At 8:32 a.m. on May 18, she erupted. She was shaken by an earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale. The eruption lasted 9 hours. Mount St. Helen's and the landscape around was left drastically changed. The blast took out nearly 230 square miles of forest. Ash and smoke drifted far from the volcano. If you want to learn more information, visit Mount St. Helen's website. You can also view the live Volcanocam.

Unfortunately, today, for viewers anxious to see if she would awaken further the weather was not cooperative with viewing the volcano. Maybe tomorrow.

Hurricanes = Baby Boom?

According to a few doctors in Florida, the string of hurricanes they faces last year is the reason behind the higher number of expectant parents. Well, what else are you supposed to do when all the lights are out and there's nothing to do? Here's the article.

Enjoy!!!

Update on Cat Hunting

Well, it seems that we won't be hunting cats in Wisconsin. Poor hunters...now they'll have to return all their Cat Hunting gear. You can read the article here.

Satire Anyone?

Okay, I don't like to admit it, but I read Romance Novels. No, not the trashy Harlequin novels with the half naked men on the cover, but the ones that actually have a story to them and only a bit of sex. But I have come to the conclusion that, no matter what period, all romances are similar. There are certain things said and done in parts of these books that make me laugh. And sadly most of them revolve around the sex scenes, especailly in the historical romances. Many times, these novels take place in London in the early 1800s. Women did not wear underware (for obvious reasons...if you can't figure it out...email me) which made it very easy to steal away and have sex anywhere they wanted, even in carriages. I was reading a book not to long ago and the two main characters (male and female) were riding in a carriage having sex, fully clothed. I understand how this can be, unbuttoned fly...skirt around the waist. But no where in these books does it state the obvious. The confines of these carriages were very small...knees touched knees.

But that's not what bothers me. It's the fact that no one ever has visible love stains on their clothing (yes, maybe a cloak here or there). And the fact that, sans undergarments, nothing is running down the women's legs after their trift. Okay, so maybe that's a little disturbing to read in a blog. Whatever. Think people.

I know these books are supposed to be read for pleasure and I do enjoy reading them. They are fantasies that we can live while reading them. But I have come to the conclusion that I am going to write a Satire based on all the Romance Novels I have read. I think this is a great idea and can't think of anyone doing this before. I think it will be a hoot. I already have my mom doing research. LOL.

Till next time....

DUH!

I think I am going to have to start writing about things that just scream "DUH!" to me. Sometimes you just feel that certain things should not make a headline because it should be common sense that tells you the truth. I feel this way especially after reading a headline on Yahoo. Yahoo usually has some stupid headlines in their news but some just really take the cake. Apparently, experts are saying that "CSI" is depicting their job as "unrealistic." DUH! I know that some students at my college have thought they wanted to go into foresics because of CSI. They did not realize how much was really involved in that major and that TV IS NOT REAL!!! Sheesh.

So, what screams DUH to you?

Cheers!

Songs and Memories

Have you ever heard a song and it made you remember something silly in your past? Everytime I hear "Fantastic Voyage" by Coolio, I think of sitting in my brother's room when we were in middle school, playing "Aladdin" on his Super Nintendo. Sad huh? It really is funny how your mind remembers things like that. Let me know what songs strike memories in your head.

Happy memories!

Semester End

Ah...and so another semester of school ends. I am one more semester closer to graduating. Grades won't be posted for another week or so, so I have to wait to see how I did. I'm pretty sure I got "A"s, maybe one "AB". Not too shabby. It was an easy semester. I am excited about next semester. I start student teaching. YEAH!!! I also have only two more classes to take. Crazy huh? I am taking one more Education class and I convinced my advisor to let me take a photography class instead of art structure (whatever that is). At least with photography, I'll have fun and it'll help me better my picture taking skills. :)

I'm so excited to be done until September. YEAH. I now have time to read more silly romance books and to work on the book I am writing. I've been dabling with it all week long. I am trying to get to know my characters better, so I am writing biographies and family trees. A bit much, I know but I really want to know my characters before I really start writing about them. I think it will help me cut down on mistakes in the long run. Well, I'll keep ya'll updated on that.

Catch ya later!!!

May Day

Yesterday was May Day for those of you who did not know. It is celebrated around the world for several reasons. The one reason that comes to my mind is the celebration of the first day of May and the coming summer. Yesterday was anything but that here in Southern Wisconsin. While waiting in line to buy tickets to this years Great Taste of the Midwest...or the Brew Fest, we got the great joy of being cold (only 43 degrees outside with wind) and slightly wet from the rain that turned into sleet that turned into snow. Yes, Snow on the first day of May. WTF?!?

I woke up at 6 this morning and saw at least an inch of snow on my car from earlier this morning. By 7:30 it was all melted but come on. It's May. That means it's Spring. That means it should be warm.

Maybe I'm spouting but I'm from Florida where it's usually 80 something by this time of the year. I sure hope it warms up soon or I'm gonna have the Spring Blues again. I want to go to the Farmers Market this weekend but if it's gonna be cold...no thank you. It is 37 out right now...our high is supposed to be 48 and our low tonight...drum roll please...29. I'm just loving it. Had to dig my Winter coat out...in Spring! This is just WRONG people. I can understand it if we lived in the mountains, but Southern Wisconsin is pretty flat...we're just on the boarder to Illinois...the flattest (and longest, most boring state to drive through) state ever.

Okay...so different subject. Yeah...Matt and I are proud owners of sought after tickets to Brew Fest. Sweet. We were originally going to get tickets at JT Whitney's, a brew pub here in town, but unfortunately they didn't inform us that they were putting people's names on lists starting at 8 a.m. yesterday morning (the news letter I got in the mail last week from JT's said they'd open doors at 10 a.m. and start selling at noon and no lists were going to be involved). But luckily we got in line somewhere else and we (me, Matt, and two friends) have 16 tickets...5 more than we need. Hehe. We'll get rid of them. I have no doubt in my mind. So, Paul...we have a ticket for you if you wanna come out. :) So, despite the crappy weather yesterday, it turned out good...got tickets and watched Jeff Gordon win the race at Talladega Superspeedway.

So, guess I've rambled on enough for today. Will catch ya'll later. Hopefully the weather will shape up and be Spring like soon.

Adios!
